ABOUT US
TOMMY STEFFEN
Born and raised in Ramsey, Minnesota, Tommy Steffen has been fishing the Rum River since the time he could walk. Living on the Rum, he fell in love with the river and fishing for smallmouth bass. He found himself fishing the river every day until he knew every rock, log, bend, and hole like it was the back of his hand. Very few, if any, spend more hours on the Rum than Tommy. He has developed a deep passion for learning how to catch smallies, pound for pound one of the strongest freshwater fish in Minnesota.
Tommy is a freshman at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He recently decided to share his talent and expertise with other anglers by starting Steffen’s Rum River Guide Service. Tommy primarily fishes the 10-mile stretch from the Highway 22 bridge to the Anoka dam. Not only will you not find another guide on the river, but on most days you will not see another boat. When he is not landing big bronze backs, Tommy enjoys hunting turkey, deer, and pheasants and competing in golf, basketball, and soccer.
Jim Steffen
Jim has lived on the Rum River in Ramsey since 2000. He quickly fell in love with catching smallies on the Rum and has spent the last two decades pursuing this passion. There is nothing better than a smallmouth bass hitting your topwater frog on a summer day! Jim has donated several ½ day fishing trips every year to various non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities. He enjoys nothing more than showing anglers the beauty of the Rum River for the first time. His love of bass fishing has been passed down to his son, Tommy, and Steffen’s Rum River Guide Service was born.
When Jim is not helping Tommy, he spends his days at Trott Brook Financial in Anoka. He has been a financial advisor for 30 years and Trott Brook is the firm he founded in 2002. We know you will enjoy your time on the Rum, there is no better place to spend the day. Give Tommy a call today and book a trip, he will work hard to provide an exceptional experience. I guarantee it!
